Current Practices of Collecting and Utilizing Daily Work Report Data and Areas for Improvements

Current Practices of Collecting and Utilizing Daily Work Report Data and Areas for Improvements

Overview

Daily Work Reports (DWRs) record construction activities, work quantities, contractor resources, and site conditions. Although resident engineers invest substantial effort in preparing them, transportation agencies often make limited use of the data.

This study reviews DWR collection and use across U.S. departments of transportation, drawing on a literature review and two nationwide surveys. It identifies challenges and recommends ways to use DWR data to support decisions throughout project development.
